    Ahoy,

This is just a reminder, especially to all the new Westsail owners, that it is tradition to sail on New Years day if you have a sailboat.  I would like to warn you of the consequences of not doing so but I don't know what those consequences are because I never miss the sail.

Good Luck out there and have a Great Westsail year.

Had a great sail: wind--10-15, hard water--mirror smooth; crisp, bright sunny day, boat speed about 40-50.

That looks like fun David. But not many creature comforts on that rig :)

Dave - Just so you know -- I got out on Sunday as instructed!

Not much wind though...went up to Richmond and photographed USS Iowa - just out of moth ball fleet and headed to San Pedro for a museum.

Overnighted at Angel Island then a cold overcast return on Monday to Alameda.

This New Years day sail was the warmest in 38 years ( Except for the ones in the lower latitudes).  No rain and an exceptional sailboat turnout here in Portland.  A great sail, but no whales or Navy ships.

    More later,     Dave

My New Year's day sail was cold and overcast with the wind blowing 15 out of the northeast right down Guemes Channel.  I sailed west across Rosario Straight to James Island and then beat back to Anacortes against a 3 knot tide.  Cold and windy and loved every minute it!  Not another boat in sight.

We had a nice sail in 23 Kt winds, what I like to call a lazy sail under staysail and reefed main. Sunny, 58 degrees.
