    Hi All, I recently acquired "Sunrise" Westsail hull #43 Built as a kit by Sir Ralph Alder, one of the great original builders of the Kendal 32. He is fine and says hello by the way. She currently lies on the hard at Glades Boat DIY Yard in Okeechobee Fla. I am trying to negotiate repair and refitting from my home in Maine and have brought some of the work home with me for reconstruction such as the tiller and sprit parts and some of the standing rig.I hope to have her seaworthy by hurricane season for a fun ride home. I have enjoyed reading the posts and hope I can make a worthy contribution to the cause. Arrrg

    Congrats on owning a Westsail! You will find this forum very helpful. I know it has (and does) helped me a lot. Bud also chimes in when he needs to!

    Thanks James, I just got a new set of halyards from Worldcruiser and they are terrific! Super nice quality line and shackles plus about 20% less $ than all other options that I looked at including doing your own splicing. Working on a boat that is almost 2000 miles away is a challenge and with the myriad of repairs it has been a problem to keep the perspective on how that distance relates to each. For instance, the shaft is fused into the flange at the engine end and if I were near my shop where my tools and supplies are, there would be three or four different techniques that I would employ before cutting the shaft at the flange to get it out but I should have gone straight to 'plan c' and cut it right off to bring home and re-make. I am kicking myself for not realizing this when I was there (I had a sawzall with me) but of course I had to get home and sleep on it for a few days to see the most efficient approach.

    Matthew, I have found that I can't find anyplace that can beat Bud's prices. Plus his knowledge is priceless.

     My boat is only about 40 minutes away but I forget parts or tools also. I now take notes on my phone under "Bring to boat" as I find I need things for next visit or while working at something at home. I also have some 12 gallon tubs that I carry back and forth. One is marked "epoxy stuff", it has anything to do with fiberglass, etc. Then there is the "sanding" bin, and the unmarked bin that I put stuff in that I want to bring to the boat. I found this works well for me. I carry my phone everywhere and take lots of pictures so I can "see" what I was working on at the boat and figure out what I need to bring.
