I am planing to install dripless shaft seal during next haul out. I can't reach the stern tube to measure it. The W32 is 1978 hull id 613 with motor liner. Shaft in 1 inch.

Do anyone know the outer diameter of stern tube? And are there differences of he sterntube sizes?

Bonus question. Do anyone know the cutlass bearing size and where to find one?

    Thank you.

    Paul,

Johnson Cutless Bearings by Duramax Marine

    Code: BALE

    Size: 1 x 11/2 x 4

Google it. I think I got mine for about $ 50.00 but can't remember where.

Put it in the freezer overnight and it will go into the stern tube without too much hammering.

Some notes on the cutlass bearing:

1,) the freezer is a good thing! (leave it in the box it came in, and don't take out until install at boat). = keep as cold as you can, but not below 0 F

2.) I made a wooden driver for mine (dowel the size of shaft and some type of tube = Larger than the od of the bearing but fits tight on the dowel) It is nice to be able to put some effort with sledge if needed. ( I did have to swing pretty hard)

3.) Make sure the hole is clean (ck for the set screws on the sides) and make sure there are no filings or ?

4.) for my install I used a small propane torch to heat the shaft log (just enough that the outside is hot to the touch but you can hold your finger on the outside for a little bit) est 140F

5.) Quick is the only option = once started, it needs to go home in less than 10 seconds

lastly A CAREFUL use of the sawsall in two places 180 apart will get the old one out.  Note do not saw all the way to the log = (1/128" Thick can be bent out in two parts if you cut it in 2 places)

    Hope this helps

also If Svens does not have it, NAPA marine or KKMI should? I did order mine online as it was a little less $$$
