Hi again; I can't remember the original inside design of the 1978 WestSail 32'; I have two teak slatted shelves?  how did they fit? one on the bottom and one above?  I just can't remember, did they side over each other or were they stationary?

    Merry Xmas!

    Tamra,

Can't say what the original shelves were, now that the boat is over 40, buy mine were made out of acrylic sheeting with holes cut for ventilation. In my opinion, it was a horrible design, as the ledges (shelf supports) were placed such that you could never store anything much taller than a jar of pickles or jelly. Not my typical dinner. I have addressed this in an older thread (Ice Box Liner Removal) that offers a suggestion for a much better solution. After viewing the post, scroll down a bit, and find a second post on the same thread... I've made an update to this one in response to your question.

    I hope this helps.

I added removable shelving to the lowest 'step' of the ice box. It reduced the overall capacity but once I migrated from using ice to refrigeration the capacity wasn't needed.

It also meant I didn't have to reach for something up to my shoulder. Plus, there is enough room under the shelves to store 4 one gallon jugs of water that acts as a 'cold sink' helping keep the interior cold so the compressor doesn't have to work as hard to maintain temp in hot weather.
