Hi Bob , I do not know that boat . But I looked at the ad , couple of things got my attention . I see now why you asked about the 150 genny . and I have no idea how the boat would handle with that sail , my guess is, for SF bay you might want the original yankee . The fact that the boat has been re-powered is very nice , I would check that you still have adequate room to service  the stuffing box . The boat is certainly optioned out like the hot/cold pressure water and reefer . I would like to know the hull #  , reason for that is early W 28's had no boomkin and other stuff that was corrected on later models . Check out Marina Fay    http://www.westsail.com/forsale/marinafay.htm or if that doesn't open up just go to Buds site and give a good look at the aft , see the hoop over the tiller ? Also the rudder has been enlarged on the later models , you can see on Marina the smaller rudder . Also on later models they added a taller mast and more ballast . But it looks like the one you are looking at is a later model . Good luck .

Hi Mark.  Thanks for those pertinent comments.  I think the W28 down south is a later model.  Specs, if accurate, indicate more ballast and deeper draft, and it seems to have a boomkin, but I'll add that to my list of questions.  I agree about the Yankee and have asked if there is still one on board.  If not a call to Kern Ferguson would be in order.  Good point about the engine, too.  I had not thought about the fit.  If I do go forward with this one I'll ask Bud to do the survey.  All the best.

    Fair winds,

    Bob

Bob, this one is on your way down .http://www.westsail.com/forsale/rockabye.htm It's on Buds site . I feel kind of bad for pointing out negative things on Marina Fay , but you are a future owner , we want to get it right the first time . Mark .

    Bob,

Retirement is only a couple years off for us and we are considering getting a larger boat for liveaboard use.  If none of the 28's you are looking at work out give me a call, we have not made any decision at this point as to what we will be doing.  But one never knows... after these last few days...!

Mark...Moro Bay is on the way to LA! Certainly worth a look.

Kevin...Tempting me! Starwhite looks like she is worth the wait.

    Thanks to you both.

    Bob
