Transmission failure

We experienced complete and sudden loss of transmission oil pressure this past weekend.

The transmission is a Borg Warner and the engine is a 410-8 Perkins.

I have no prior experience with these transmissions and I am in need of some direction on the steps and order to trouble shoot the problem.

My first thoughts were that it was a broken hose but I have not noticed any large quantities of transmission fluid in the engine compartment.  My next thought was that the pump failed.

The boat is equipped with a mechanical transmission oil pressure gauge with high and low point alarms.  The pressure was operating within the normal limits until the sudden and complete loss of pressure.

I was running about 1200 - 1500 rpm when the incident occurred.

So glad we had Boat US membership.  Tow bill was $1,800.00

Thanks in advance for your help.

Contact TransAtlantic Diesel in VA.  They should be able to help, and are an excellent company.  They are on the web, I believe at TAD.
